Taken by Mark Davison

Whether you want to watch , film or take photos of badger's there is some information you need to know and this page should provide you with everything you need to know from the experts that have the experience of watching these shy creature's without them knowing that they are be watched.

Locating a sett

To find a sett if you live the country then ask some of the local farmers that own woodland there should be a sett some where in the countryside near you. If you live in a town or city  try contacting your Local Wildlife or badger Group they are usually happy to help as long as you mean no harm to the badgers.

Learn about your Badgers

If you regularly put down food the badgers about 10 Metres away from the sett on one of there usual runs try putting  peanut butter on trees or scatter peanuts in that area  if you do this  they  will become less wary and you can choose the best place where you have a good view to get the results you want but remember it all takes time from but just watching the Badgers they should give you information about which entrances they emerge from and  the times they are active and the amout of badgers in one sett.

Go Wildlife Watching's Tip 1

You could also try a stealth camera (sensor camera trap)

which Go Wildlife Watching sells which would get you information without you having to be there and the time is stamped onto the images or small Movie files so you no the best time to see the badgers so you can arrive a few hours before so you can get setup before  they emerge but about an hour before they emerge you should stay silent as birds can alert your presence to the badgers as the birds use alarm calls when you aproach  song birds and  birds from the crow family especially can affect how invisible you are .

 Ready to go

The Key to badger watching is to be patient and being invisible to the badgers senses which are very acute so don't try to film or take a picture of the first badger you see as this would then alert the others waiting for the all clear of your presence .

Always make sure  the wind is blowing away from the sett or the trail you are by because if the badgers get your scent then they will probably stay in their sett for hours until they feel confident that they will be safe or even avoid the area you are in if they get to spooked .

Remember When filming at the set beware of the laws regarding disturbance.

(wildlife and countryside act)

As they are protected which means you could find yourself in breach of the law if you get to close to a badger sett .
