How to Watch and Film Foxes

Taken by Sue Robb

Whether you want to watch , film or take photos of Foxes there is some information you need to know and this page should provide you with everything you need to know from the experts that have the experience of watching Foxes  without them knowing that they are being observed.

Finding a  Fox

To find a fox if you live the country then ask some of the local farmers   there should be a fox some where in the countryside near you although they seem to be a bit more wary but  urban foxes  are all over the country even probably live in your area so trying asking your neighbours .

Another idea I have tried is putting food in your garden and seeing if its still there in the morning if its gone then buy a  Night Vision CCTV Camera which will so you the night time visitors that are feasting on the food you have put out see the my results on the Link below.

Learn about your Fox

If you regularly put down food the foxes about 15 Metres away from the den on one of there usual runs try putting chicken or scatter peanuts in that area  if you do this  they  will become less wary and you can choose the best place where you have a good view to get the results you want but remember it all takes time from but just watching the Foxes they should give you information about where they take there food and  the times they are active and the amount of foxes in one Family group especially in the spring when they stay together the dog fox , Vixen and the cubs but in late autumm they tend to separate and live by them selves then by December they begin there breeding season again .The Best time watch is from march to Late summer when they are more active in daylight hours.

Go Wildlife Watching's Tip 1

You could also try a Camera trap

which Go Wildlife Watching sells which would get you information without you having to be there and the time is stamped onto the images or small Movie files so you no the best time to see the fox so you can arrive a few hours before so you can get setup before  they emerge but about an hour before they emerge you should stay silent as birds can alert your presence to the fox as the birds use alarm calls when you aproach  song birds and  birds from the crow family especially can affect how invisible you are .

 Ready to go

The Key to foxwatching is to be patient and being invisible to their senses which are both very acute sight and smell. so always make sure  the wind is blowing away from the where the fox may come from or the trail you are by because if the fox gets your scent then they will probably stay in their den for hours until they feel confident that they will be safe or even avoid the area you are in if they get to spooked they mignt not go near the area for days .

Remember When filming Stay as quiet and still as a part of the scenery
